A six-year-old Worksop boy was forced to have surgery after he slipped and caught his eye lid on a rail in a clothes store.
Luke Cooling, of Rosedale, Worksop, was with his mum, Amanda Gosney in Select fashion store in Meadowhall on Saturday 3rd May.
The youngster slipped and landed with his right eye caught on the end of a clothes rail.
He was taken to Sheffield Children’s Hospital in an ambulance.
Amanda said: “He is very lucky not to have lost his eye.”
“He has had to have stitches.”
“He slipped forward on the floor and his right eye lid became attached to this clothes rail.”
“I feel that these clothes rails should have protective rubber ends on them.”
“They are sharp, and I want to make people aware of the damage they can cause.”
“If they did have rubber ends on then I do not think Luke would have been as badly injured as he was.”
“I could see his eye lid caught on the rail.”
“I would like someone to look into trying to make them safer.”
Amanda explained that two staff members in the store were very helpful and were concerned.
She said they swapped numbers so they could find out how Luke was getting on.
Luke is now out of hospital and has returned to school after doctors told him to take care and rest-up.
Amanda added:“It has made him very anxious now and he was a bit worried about returning to school at first.”
