Willingham medical practice praised by inspectors

Staff at The Surgery in Willingham-by-Stow were thrilled to receive the positive inspection feedback.

Willingham Surgery, on High Street, was given the second highest rating of ‘Good’ following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission in December.

The practice cares for around 4,000 patients and was praised for providing safe, caring and effective services, for responding well to people’s needs and being well led.

Practice manager Ian Hammerton said: “I am really pleased for the staff and of course the patients.

“There is a real community spirit here and everyone works hard and as one to provide the best possible care for our patients.”

He added: “We class many of our patients as friends and people we can sit and have a chat with when we have the time. It really is a great village and practice in which to work.”

According to the report, survey figures showed patients rated the practice consistently higher than many others for all aspects of care.

Moreover, patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in their care and decisions about their treatment.

The report also noted the surgery had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs in full.

In a joint statement, practice partners Dr Martin Monroe and Dr Dan Lane, said: “We strive to provide a caring, safe, high quality service for each and every patient and this is a positive result for the hard work of our team.

“This isn’t just about the clinical staff here, but every member of staff who work brilliantly together.”

Willingham Surgery is part of Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group, whose acting deputy chief nurse added his congratulations.

Terry said: “We very much welcome this news. The CCG has a really good working relationship with Willingham-by-Stow Surgery and we’re delighted the team there has done so well in its CQC inspection.”

Inspectors suggested that the practice could improve further by updating its action plans, holding more inclusive staff meetings and conducting more detailed annual reviews.

Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group is one of four across Lincolnshire, and more than 200 nationwide, which lead the procurement of healthcare for their respective group of residents.

Lincolnshire West includes 240,000 people living in Lincoln, Gainsborough and surrounding villages.
