Hide AdIt is a family affair for club member Derek Smith of Holbeach, with his son Graham and grandson Roger from Spalding also involved.
Derek expected 40-50 racers and insisted these are not just plastic battery-powered toys. He said: “The one-fifth scale cars are about 2ft 6in long and weigh about three stones. They have two-stroke petrol engines and travel at up to 60mph.
“The 26-28cc engines are similar to a grass strimmer but tuned up and cars can cost hundreds of pounds, with two or four wheel drive and differential gearboxes.”
Spectators are welcome to watch the racing at the purpose-built circuit, with impressive facilities developed by the members over the years.
The club only has a handful of members, but Derek said: “We would love to have more members.”
