Top musical by local operatics


MUSIC lovers are in for a treat as one of the area’s most talented groups are set to stage a top show.

To see the snow in May, you don’t have to visit the Antarctic or Greenland - just head to the Regal to watch the Worksop Light Operatic Society’s production of Carousel.

The nine Snow children form part of the cast of this popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical - being brought to Worksop by this long-established local society.

The show features many well-known musical numbers including June Is Bustin’ Out All Over, If I Loved You and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The uplifting story includes romance, comedy and tragedy - before ending with a message of hope.

Principal parts are being taken by a mixture of established members and newcomers to the society.

Angela Allen will star as Julie Jordan and Sarah Hemsall shall appear as Carrie Pipperide. Although seasoned performers, they’ll be taking these will be their first riles with the society.

Other familiar faces include Chris Hind, Aiden Banyard, Joanne Lassmans, Angela Traczykowski and Steve Rowan.

Other supporting parts, a skilled team of dancers and a large chorus complete the rest of the cast - making this a show not to be missed!

“I am delighted to be back with the Society, and am really enjoying directing such a wonderful show and hard-working cast,” said director Andrea Colton.

“I know it will provide a great evening out, but would advise audience to be prepared for a very emotional ending!”

She added: “A hankie might come in handy to dry your eyes!”

- Carousel will be performed by the Worksop Light Operatic Society at the Worksop Regal on Carlton Road, from Tuesday 15th - Saturday 19th May at 7pm each night.

ANOTHER top night of entertainment is coming to town courtesty of the Whitwell Players with their eagerly anticipated Murder Mystery night.

The theme is the 1960’s London underworld of crime and violence, set around a nightclub owned by notorious villains. As well as 60’s-themed food, there will be Beatles tribute band The Weevils.
