A STRONG south east wind made the going hard for the second set of Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club reliability rides with all eight riders choosing the 50K ride (32 miles).

Geoff Garner chose category A (2 hours), Pete Hanks and David Chaffey chose category B (2 hours 20 minutes). Dave Day and Michael Dawson category C (2 hours 40 minutes) and Trevor Halstead, Daniel Nicholson and Colin Smith category E (3 hours 40 minutes).

Geoff returned in 1 hour 59 minutes 43 seconds, Pete in 2 hours 16 minutes 10 seconds. Dave Day and Michael 2 hours 27 minutes 10 seconds. Trevor, Daniel and Colin in 2 hours 36 minutes 20 seconds, all within their stated times. David Chaffy was outside his chosen category in 2 hours 25 minutes 10 seconds.

Raymond Newton has been awarded by Cycling Time Trials, the national body regulating Time Trial Cycle Racing in the UK, its Certificate of Honour. This is for service over very many years – over two decades - to the North Midlands District.

Raymond was presented with his certificate at the annual North Midlands Cycle Federation Luncheon at Eckington on Sunday 6th February by the chairman of the North Midlands District Committee Phil Ragsdale. Eighty friends and colleagues were at the luncheon that saw the area’s top riders awarded their trophies and cups.

Raymond has always played his part in running cycle events in this and neighbouring areas. He has specialised with safety signs and equipment in recent years, a vital role.

At a special meeting held on the 7th February Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club elected a new committee. They are: chairman, Paul Reynolds; vice-chairman, Andrew Janney; treasurer, Geoff Garner; secretary, and web master, Daniel Nicholson; racing secretary, Bob Fotheringham; leisure rides captain and press officer, Trevor Halstead; committee member, Dave Day.

On Sunday 20th February there are reliability rides of 20 miles, 50K, 50 miles or 75 miles starting at 8.30am from 21 Portland Terrace, Gainsborough.
