Striders tackle some of the country’s high profile races

Gainsborough and Morton Striders athletes have been tackling some of the country’s biggest races, including the London and Greater Manchester Marathons, and a half marathon much closer to home.

Jerry McCulla led a 10-strong Striders squad in the London Marathon, running an excellent time of 2:49:55.

McCulla became only the third Strider to dip under two hours 50 minutes, and improved his personal best by an incredible 10 minutes in only his second London Marathon.

Wayne Greenfield, who gained his place via the Club’s London Marathon Ballot, was next home in a splendid debut marathon time of 3:13:12.

Criag Ward, who ran for the Charity ALM, through the club’s charity draw, ran a new personal best of 3:38:07.

Other Striders times at London included Chris Litherland and Paschal Moran, both 3:52, Jane Benson 3:57:50, and Martin Edwards, Rebecca Cross and Mick Wood who all crossed the Finish line together in a respectable time of 4:38:39.

In the Greater Manchester Marathon, Jon Drake ran a splendid new personal best and joined the sub three hour club with a time of 2:59:26.

Paul Dagg and Sophie Hempsall had a steady run in a time of 3:58:16.

The North Lincs Half Marathon at Scunthorpe attracted 20 Striders.

The race finished at the home of Scunthorpe United Football Club.

Mark Rodgers and Kev Housham both recorded personal best times with 1:26:44 and 1:27:30 respectively.

Third Strider home was Dan Edwards in 1:33:27.

And Rhiddian Edwards carved over 11 minutes off his personal best to record a time of 1:41:33.

Other Striders times were: Carl Currie 1:35:43, Lee Fenlon 1:35:57, Nigel Bowler 1:38:48, Gary Atkinson 1:44:24, Glenn Peniston 1:47:02, Dan Gleave 1:49:53, Stephen Toward 1:53:57, Vikki Hearn 1:54:06, Mark Cutts 1:56:58, Lottie Lindley 1:58:22, Angela Overson and Shaun Boyle both 1:59:22, Justin Connolle 2:03:45, Sarah Keates 2:03:54, Tracey Moseley 2:05:57 and Stacey Kerr 2:11:50.
