Lea & Roses’ first team got their first significant Bassetlaw & District League points haul of the season last weekend, taking 17 points home from 10-men Ordsall Bridon II, only one wicket shy of the full 20.

Lea & Roses batted first and put on a massive total of 293-7.

The opening partnership of Chris Needham and Lee Mardle was worth 140, with Mardle making 43 and Needham going on to top score with 80.

The Lea & Roses side batted well throughout with sizeable contributions also from Matt Snee (32) and Ed Cooke (39).

In reply Bridon never really got a foothold in the game.

Early wickets from James Cooper and Matthew Housham got the ball rolling and the introduction of Andy Orton, who took a five wicket haul, saw the wickets tumble.

Despite Lea & Roses’ best efforts, the wicket to clinch the match didn’t come as Bridon batted out to finish 125-8.

The Lea & Roses third team didn’t fair as well as they were defeated by Sherwood Colliery.

Lea & Roses batted first and posted 92 all out, with Sherwood knocking off the total for two wickets, with 14 overs to spare.
