For the first time in many months there was a complete lack of racing action by runners from Gainsborough and Morton Striders.
However, that didn’t stop many runners from having a go at various parkruns on Saturday morning.
At Gainsborough Ian Haldenby and Jane Saunders recorded new personal best times, 25:54 and 33:34 respectively, on the undulating course just behind the Leisure Centre. James Croft was the first finisher, the 16th time he has achieved that position.
The Scunthorpe parkrun saw Aaron Hill clock another P.B. of 18:41 with Daniel Gleave’s 24:38 at the Clumber Park event a new fastest time for him.
The latest national rankings have been issued by UK Athletics; these are based on the running records of over 460,000 athletes. Several Striders are shown in the top 500 in their respective age groups.
The highest ranked Strider is Thomas Sweeting who is 7th in his U11 age group. Joe Humphries is in the same category and is currently placed 305th. Ronnie McWilliam is 227th [V50], Phil Marsland [V60] is 338th and, in the V70 age group, Cliff Middleton is 423rd.
From the lady Striders Lorna Allison is 333rd in her V40 group, whilst the V70 category shows Maureen Allen in 20th and Shiela Bowler in 409th.
A couple of Striders dipped their toes into the Woodhall Spa Triathlon on Sunday.
This comprised a 400m swim, 24k cycle ride followed by a 5k run. David Sweeting finished in just under 1 hr 25 minutes with Samantha Garrison following him home 21 minutes later.
There will be no training next Tuesday as the juniors and seniors will be racing at the Lincoln Wellington race series.
