It was an action packed weekend for Gainsborough and Morton Striders as they enjoyed, and in some cases endured, the warmer weather.

The racing started on Friday evening as Neil Broughton went down the A1 to Grantham where he finished the Summer Solstice 10k, his fourth in three weeks, in 54 minutes.

The next day, Emma Humphries and Norman Hindley travelled to Rother Valley to take part in the Three Lakes Classic, a 15 mile trail and track race.

Humphries’ impressive time of 2:08:26 made her the 10th lady to finish. Hindley was not too far behind in 2:23:32 for a 156th place finish.

The action shifted to the Isle of Axholme on Sunday where almost 40 Striders took part in the Hoka Owston Ferry fun run and 10k.

An enthusiastic crowd saw Joshua Cutts finish thirrd in the fun run, with team-mates Jasper Humphries and Tom Cutts fifth and sixth.

In the road race Wayne Greenfield was the highest placed Strider with a time of 38:09 for 19th place out of the 400 runners.

The warm weather certainly took its toll as only three Striders achieved a personal best time.

Simon Hunt (42:20) had the best improvement, shaving over one and a half minutes off his previous best.

Other PBs were recorded by Hanna Bennett (51:08) and Emma Housham (65:24), her third consecutive PB at the distance.

Debutant Strider Lauren Staves finished in 48:11 which gave her third place in the female U20 section.

Andrew Gillum (44:33), Carla Wragg (47:27) and Glenn Hill (50:56) were the other debutants.

Other times achieved were Mat Huteson (39:03), Kevin Housham (42:51), Lee Fenlon (43:14), Carl Currie (45.38), Mark Cutts (49:50), Dan Gleave (51:44), Mark Rodgers (51:47), Mick Wood and Chris Inman (both 52:53), Vikki Hearn (54:05), Neil Broughton (55:40), Rebecca Cross (56:27), Collette Randall (67:09) and Janet Goude (70:19).

In the parkrun on Saturday morning Phil Kitchen led the 10 Strider contingent home when he was the second finisher in 21:29.

The club’s next training session will be at 6.30pm on Thursday at Queen Elizabeth’s High School where new members will be more than welcome.

The next parkrun will be at 9am on Saturday at West Lindsey Leisure Centre.
