Two wins in a row as Steelers pip Belfast side

Sheffield Steelers made it two wins in two nights, with a 2-1 victory over Belfast Giants on Sunday.

Belfast took an early lead with a shorthanded Darryl Lloyd goal, as he wristed past Frank Doyle.

But Steelers were level before the end of the first period, Sefan Meyer beating Stephen Murphy in the visitors’ net.

The second period was goalless, but only thanks to Man of the Match Doyle who saved two penalty shots, first denying Jeff Szwez and then Gareth Roberts.

Just 10 minutes remained when British players Jason Hewitt and Jonathan Phillips combined, the latter deflecting home with his skate for a 2-1 win.

Victory, coupled with a 4-1 win in Fife on Saturday, moved Sheffield up to third in the Elite League.
