A popular cyclist who died during a Trent Valley Road Club race will be remembered by the club, his friends and family on Sunday.
On 18th March 2012 Andrew Ridsdale died after a collision with a heavy goods vehicle, while participating in a time trial.
A member of Epsom Cycling Club, the 43-year-old was struck by the lorry on the southbound carriageway of the A1.
After discussions with his family and friends, it was decided to name the event in his honour and use the proceeds to fund trophies.
These trophies are now part of the presentation, at what has become a yearly time trial to mark the tragic event.
There are three trophies on offer, for the Fastest Overall, Fastest Handicap and Vets.
These will be engraved each year with the winner’s time and name.
The winners of each trophy will also receive a small trophy to keep and a cash prize.
Over 40 riders are expected to participate in this Sunday’s ride, and the race headquarters will be located at Harby Village Hall.
Last year riders from Team Swift, Doncaster Wheelers, Cherry Valley RT, Lincoln Wheelers, Scunthorpe RC, Trent Valley Road Club and a number of other organisations took part.
Trent Valley Road Club would like volunteers to assist with the event so please get in touch if you would be interested in helping out on the day.
