A quartet of Gainsborough and Morton Striders took part in local 5k parkrun events last weekend, with a teenager impressing.

Elliott Batty, 16, took the honours for the club at the Lincoln event.

Clark ran his best time on the extremely flat Boultham Park course in 18:44, only two seconds outside the club record for the venue.

Craig Ward led a trio of Striders home in the Scunthorpe 5K parkrun held at the more undulating Central Park course in a time of 21:14.

Samantha Garrison made a fine debut in 29:01 (F30-34) and Collette Randall ran 34:18.

Ward is the race director for the upcoming Gainsborough parkrun, starting in spring, and any Striders or friends of the club are asked to contact him via the club’s Facebook page if they can volunteer for any of the duties at the parkrun.

Full training will be given.

Even volunteering once a month would significantly help the smooth running of the event.

The parkruns are held weekly and start at 9am.

A club spokesman said: “Staging a parkrun in Gainsborough will be an ideal opportunity for local runners and complete beginners to embark on a 5K run free of charge.”

“Although a number of athletes do take the events seriously the majority of the entrants simply use the parkruns as an opportunity to keep fit.”
