Steve is top of Aegir time trial pile

Steve Cowlbeck took victory in the Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club midweek race last week.

The rider, who only joined the club in June, recorded 28 minutes 05 seconds for the 10.3 mile time trial.

The course started on Laughton Lane, passing through Wildsworth, East Stockwith, Walkerith, and Morton andfinishing on Laughton Lane at the starting point.

A breezy evening made the race a demanding event, but riders coped well accomplishing some good times.

Rob Noble knocked Trevor Halstead into third place.

Gainsborough Aegir CC results: 1st Steve Cowlbeck 28 minutes 05 seconds, 2nd Rob Noble 30:07, 3rd Trevor Halstead 30:54, 4th James Green 31:06, 5th Daniel Edwards 34:56, 6th Jon Findley 35:20, 7th Jo Findley 37:00.

Private Trials (Non Club Members): Steve Brown 32:42, Scunthorpe Road Club.

On Sunday Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club’s 100 mile championship was part of the Yorkshire Cycling Federation race.

Trevor Halstead travelled to take part.

Very strong winds made the race extremely difficult,

Hsltead completed the race in six hours flat.

The fastest rider of the Yorkshire event was Andy Jackson of Team Swift with a time of 3:41:50.

Also on Sunday, the club held a 16-mile leisure ride.

Daniel Nicholson, David Chaffey, Colin Smith, Paul Bacon, and Mark Clark all took part.

The ride departed Roseway and made it’s way out of town crossing Trent Bridge into Nottinghamshire.

The riders headed through Beckingham, Walkeringham and Gringley on the Hill.

The Aegir men then headed homewards along the A631 passing through Beckingham to return to Gainsborough.

On Sunday 24th August the club’s leisure ride will be to Matlock.

Riders should meet at Roseway, Gainsborough at 7.30am for an extra long ride of around 120 miles.

The next Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club racing event is Wednesday 27th August.

The race is a Pot Luck 10 mile time trial.

Riders names will be drawn out of a hat and paired up to ride in twos.

Meet on Laughton Lane at 6.15pm.

The first riders will set off at 6.30pm.
