Skelly is fastest half marathon debutant for the Striders

Jordan Skelly had a magnificent debut half marathon in the North Lincs 13.1 mile Road Race last weekend, running the fastest Striders’ debut time at that distance in around 20 years.

Skelly, one of the county’s leading triathletes, ran an astonishing 1:17:35 to move into seventh in the club’s All-time records.

Second home was ultra-distance runner Jerry McCulla, who knocked over four minutes off his previous best to finish in 1:18:09, placing him eighth on the all-time list.

Jon Drake was the third Strider to cross the line, improving his personal best by five minutes to register 1:23:08.

Lorna Allison (1st FV35) led the ladies team home in a new personal best of 1:26:29, almost three minutes improved.

Helen Robinson was the second lady Strider to finish, again in a personal best of 1:36:24, with Angela Overson, in 1:47:03, reducing her half-marathon best by over 12 minutes.

Of the 31 Striders who competed in the event, which finished on the ground of Scunthorpe United FC, an incredible 17 set personal bests.

Of these, the biggest improvement went to Shelly Ibbotson who sliced 13 minutes off her time to record 1:56:32.

Clare Hardwick and Justine Connole improved their best times by nine minutes, in 1:54:18 and 2:10:07, respectively.

Others who set new P.B’s were: Dan Edwards (2nd U20) 1:27:26, Martin Edwards 1:31:02, Jordan Holmes 1:31:53, Craig Ward 1:32:35, Gary Atkinson 1:36:14, Simon Hunt 1:36:21, Glenn Peniston 1:51:30 and Shaun Boyle 1:55:35.

Phil Marsland set a personal best in Striders’ colours of 1:30:17 and was third V50.

Wayne Greenfield was the leading debutant amongst the other five Striders attempting the classic 13.1 mile race distance for the first time, in an excellent time of 1:28:06.

Other debutants were: Vikki Hearn 2:05:47, Donna Cook 2:08:15, Tracey Moseley 2:17:41 and Collette Randall 2:24:50.

The remaining Striders time were: Phil Kitchen 1:38:04, Chris Litherland 1:39:26, Nigel Bowler 1:39:33, Mark Rodgers 1:46:48, Jane Catley 1:48:24, Kev Housham 1:51:34, Mick Wood 1:56:12 and Rebecca Cross 2:11:50.
