As part of National Bike Week Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club held an 8.2 mile novice race for non-racing cyclists to experience the thrill of a cycle race and some very good times were achieved.
Results: Novice Race - 1, James Lawson 23 minutes 41 seconds (road bike), winner Fastest Rider, Church Street Cycles Trophy; 2, Joe Nash 24-57 (road bike); 3, Roy Watson 30-06 (road bike); 4, Sarah Lawson 30-38 (road bike), Fastest Lady; 5, Andy Clarke 31-14 (road bike); 6, Samatha Jubbs 41-34 (mountain bike), Fastest MTB. Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club Non Racing Members Trophy- 1, Daniel Nicholson 31-56; 2, Colin Smith 37-20; private trials (non-club members) - Steve Brown (Scunthorpe Road Club) 26-30 seconds, trike.
The club would like to thank the ship Inn for their hospitality, also thanks to Gainsborough Aegir racing members who marshalled the event.
On 14th June a 27-mile race took place starting on Thonock Hill and the winner of the Wm Stones Trophy for the fastest 27 miles was Geoff Garner in a timne of 1 hour 16 minutes 20 seconds. Second was Richard Hunt 1-17-57; 3, Peter Hanks 1 hour 21 minutes 50 seconds; 4, Trevor Halstead 1-24-19. The League 18 times were: (first two laps) - 1, Geoff Garner 50-26; 2, Richard Hunt 51-56; 3, Peter Hanks 53-51; 4, Trevor Halstead 56-17; nine miles one lap - Joe Noble 29-29. Private trials (non-club members) nine miles one lap - Jamie Cooke (Trent Valley RC) 29-50. On Sunday 26th June there is a leisure ride to York Rally - meet Roseway, Gainsborough, at 4am. On Wednesday 29th June there is the Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club Championship 25-mile Time Trial starting on Laughton Lane, meet 6.45pm, first rider of at 7pm.
