Melrose struggled last week in the Gainsborough Bowls League but so did most of their rivals, so they stay top.
Against much improved visitors Marton GB the home team were well below their best.
Three rinks were very close and could have gone either way but Melrose managed to battle through to win two and draw one.
However, the Marton rink of Mustapha Chafik, Dave Cordon, and Robert West won 28-12 and took the aggregate to give Marton four points.
The final result was 5-5 (73-80).
Scotter visited Owston Ferry and were always winning one rink, with ‘Ferry’ ahead in another, but two rinks were only settled on the last end.
The final score was a 6-4 (72-65) win for Scotter.
Marshall A visited Misterton and came away as 8-2 winners but only just, all four rinks were close and the biggest winning margin was only five.
Marshall A won three rinks and the aggregate 81-73.
Marshall Sports hosted North Wheatley and comfortably won two rinks by 10 and nine and lost a rink by five but the Wheatley rink of Carol Booth, Rose Sharpe, and Dave Hall won 29-12 to take the aggregate and the match 6-4 (82-79).
The Hazel Lawrence quarter-finals (singles, pairs, triples, fours) saw Melrose SSC visiting North Wheatley who had beaten them in the league by two shots.
This match was a repeat for about 90 per cent of its length with only the ending different.
Like the league match the aggregate was tied near the end but this time Melrose won the last ends to win 61-55.
Melrose won the fours 16-8, but North Wheatley won rinks by 13-12 and 15-14 and the singles was 19-19.
