Ray Robinson and Tom Whiteley (M2) are now clear leaders of the Monday Evening Pairs league at West Lindsey Indoor Bowls League, Gainsborough.

They had a vital 15-14 win over their only championship rivals Keith Woffinden and Gordon Tucker (M5) to go two points clear.

They also have a greatly superior shot difference, which is worth a point at this end of the season.

At the bottom, Peter Taylor’s M1 team (2 from 4) just beat B. Turner and John Grooby (M4) 23-21, which means that M4 are certain to finish bottom in their first year.

Julian Cowan and Eric Dobbie (M1) had a comfortable lead against M1 but struggled over the line as 17-15 winners.

In the Tuesday Australian Pairs Gordon Tucker and Keith Woffinden (T8) slipped up, but stay as the clear leaders and also have superior shots difference.

T8 lost 12-8 to Brenda Allen’s T3 team (2 from 3) and can now in theory be caught by Pip Pearson’s T1 team in third and are threatened by Tim Kempton’s T7 team in second, both T1 and T7 were inactive in the last two weeks.

John Musgrave and Peter Freeman (T2) now seem certain to finish bottom in their first year after losing to Michael Proudley and Merv Johnson (T6) by 13-10.

In the Thursday 9 a-side Team League Roses had an ordinary match against Misterton and had to settle for a draw 4-4 (+ 13 shots), but they are still in a very strong position.

In the Friday Triples Julian Cowan, Eric Dobbie, and Dave Childs (F1) now only need one point from their last three games to retain their championship, assuming that Ray Robinson’s F5 team can win all 4 of their remaining matches to catch up.

Geoff Gray’s F3 team did F1 an enormous favour by beating Ray Robinson’s F5 team by 19-17.

F1 strengthened their position by beating Merv Johnson’s F4 team by 25-5 and then beat Geoff Gray’s F3 team by 19-10.

Geoff’s team had a poor start and were 9-0 down after four ends and although they played really well after that F1 pulled away again near the end.

The ‘club’ competitions are well under way and Les Savage and Dave Copley are in exceptional form.

In the pairs they easily beat Julian Cowan and Eric Dobbie 29-6 and with Merv Johnson they beat Keith Clarke, Daphne Staff, and Dave Childs by 27-15. However, in this last match they started poorly and were losing 15-4, but they then found their form and their opponents didn’t score again!

In the mens Singles Geoff Gray beat Gordon Tucker 21-11 and then beat Ray Hargreaves 21-7.

Julian Cowan led 10-2 and 13-5 against an out of sorts Bob Baines, but Julian failed to finish him off while he had the chance and in the end Julian was grateful to win 21-18 in 24 ends.

Audrey Rogers, Tommy Wyman, and Dorothy Moyes were 11-3 down against Susan Mawer, Peter Taylor, and Ron Sharpe but they came back to win 15-12.

Susan Mawer and Brenda Allen surprised Ray Hargreaves and Bob Baines, in a very close game they held their nerve to win 15-14.

In the Ladies Singles current champion Enid underwood easily beat Daphne Staff 22-9.

Finally newcomers Andrew Sheardown and Rev Smith easily beat Tony Scott and Lionel Jowett by an impressive 33-5.
