LEE Westwood is hoping to go one better than last year’s runner-up placing in the WGC HSBC Champions tournament, when he tees off in Shanghai this weekend.
The Worksop man finished one shot behind Francesco Molinari, and has fond memories of his performance.
“I became world number one at this time last year and I played like world number one in the tournament,” he said.
“Unfortunately Francesco played a little bit better, but I was pleased with the way I played.”
“It was a good battle, and hopefully I’ll get stuck in there this year and sort of go through the similar thing, but go one better.”
A good finish should propel Westwood to another career milestone, as the biggest earner in European Tour history.
Colin Montgomerie heads the list with £22.4million, but Westwood isn’t far behind on £22.2million – and this weekend’s tournament has a first prize of over £700,000.
