Good week of action for Beckingham Bowls Club

All four Beckingham teams were in action last week, winning three out of the five matches played.

The Gainsborough Bowls League team won both their matches convincingly.

They entertained Misterton in the Knockout Shield and triumphed by 80 shots to 56 to go through to the semi-final.

It was a good all-round team performance with Gerald West, Roger Platts and John Cawkwell winning by 16 shots and Bill Bryan, Clive Hunter and Pete Cawthorne finishing 11 shots up.

Two days later they visited Marton for a league match and won all fourrinks, and the aggregate by 101 shots to Marton’s 58 to take all 10 league points.

Carole Booth, Margaret Robinson and John Cawkwell finished 15 shots up with the other three rinks winning by 11, 10 and seven shots respectively.

In between these two matches, the club’s Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ teams were in action and the Northern Section team entertained Everton.

Don Brown, John Foster and Ken Byfleet won their rink convincingly and Beckinham’s other rink pulled away at the end to finish four shots up and gain the team the maximum six league points to Everton’s 0.

The Central Section team did not fare so well when they visited Marton, with the hosts taking both rinks to win six points to 0, which was a disappointing return for their efforts.

On 17 May, Belton visited Beckingham for an I. of A. Evening League fixture.

Beckingham easily won one rink and narrowly lost the second rink, but a 39-5 vshits ictory for Belton on the third rink gave Belton the aggregate for an 8-2 win.
