Girls underline Gym Club’s top status

GIRLS from Worksop Gymnastics Club have underlined their status as one of the region’s top clubs with a host of medals this month.

On Sunday 14th October more than 100 gymnasts from 21 different clubs competed in the Regional Open Age Championships in Leicester and the senior girls won more medals than any other club, bringing back 14, five of them gold.

In the all-round competition Shannon Wood was first, Pippa Chalmers second and Courtney Wood third.

In the individual apparatus championships Chalmers ,10, received the highest score of the day on both vault and floor to take two more golds.

Hallie Elkington took bronze on vault.

In the 12/13 age group, Courtney Wood added to her overall bronze with individual gold on vault and bars, and silver on floor, while twin sister Britney took joint silver on vault with team-mate Chloe Tate.

Wood, 14, took her medal tally to four adding individual silver on vault and bronze on bars and floor.

Just a week earlier at the County Novice Championships the club also dominated with six overall gold medals, won by Annalise Dolby, Grace Ally, Aimee Mellors, Millie Davison, Maria Louca and Katie Belcher.

Acacia Green and Rose Forrest, seven and eight respectively, both took silvers along with Mackenna Stratford, whilst Jessica Carroll, Amelia Pullinger and Chloe Drury won bronze.

Although there are no individual apparatus titles awarded at this competition, Millie Davison did achieve the highest score of the day on vault, Grace Ally and Maria Louca were both awarded the best beam scores and Aimee Mellors performed beautifully to received the highest score on floor.

Head coach Yvonne Monks told the Guardian: “This was a brilliant end to the season for the competition squads and was justly deserved for all the hard work and dedication put in by gymnasts and the coaching team.”
