The second fixture of the 2015/16 Lincolnshire Cross Country League saw a good representation of Gainsborough and Morton Striders.
Lucy Allen’s time of 6:34 gave her fourth place in the U11 girls race, going one better than at Louth.
Molly Creed also improved by one position in the U15 race, over 3.4km as she too finished fourth in a time of 17:02.
Four places further back was Charlotte Gregory in 26:45
The sole competitor in the U13 girls’ event, over 2.5km, was Alanah Hobday, and she ran 11:27 for 14th place.
In the women’s races over 5.8 km, Lauren Staves crossed the line third in the U17 race, with a time of 20.39, whilst Donna Cook recorded 36:58 in the veteran’s race.
Jamie Rairey was the first of the Striders in the U11 boys’ race as he matched his Louth second place.
He came home in 5:38, 50 seconds ahead of Joshua Cutts in 10th.
Behind them were Lewis Shillito in 6:32 (15th), Thomas Cutts in 6:54 (20th) and Max Creed in 7:18 (23rd).
Mat Huteson’s experience of the Gainsborough parkrun course certainly helped him as he made light work of the 10km seniors’ course, his time of 45:27 giving him 12th place.
The meeting ended with the veterans’ race in which Simon Hall and Cliff Middleton had times of 47:12 and 52:19 respectively.
Hanna Bennett travelled to Nottingham to take part in the Dirty Dash 10k, a trail race around the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, finishing in 54:34.
Slightly further down the road, at Wollaton Park, five Striders took part in the Mo-Run, a 10k race in support of the Movember charity.
Mark Rodgers and Kevin Housham both donned fancy dress as they ran 50:32 and 50:51 respectively.
Karrie Rodgers and Emma Housham accompanied Sara Kelsey as she tackled her first 10k race, only a few months after graduating from this year’s Couch to 5k course. All three completed the course in 1:27:42.
The strong winds and slippery conditions did not make for speedy running at the Gainsborough parkrun on Saturday with only one runner out of the 38 taking part, achieving a personal best.
For the second week running Wayne Greenfield was the first Strider to finish, although this week he was the second finisher, behind serial first placer Ronnie McWilliams.
Mat Huteson was 51 seconds behind Greenfield, in 21:05, with Dave Bembridge a further 1:43 back.
Molly Creed was the first lady finisher, in 25:37 whilst Joe Humphries produced a fantastic sprint finish to cross the line in 26:40 just ahead of his mother, Emma.
Jonathan Chapman completed the Strider contingent with his 29:24.
Anthony Myles went to Lincoln and ran 30:54 as Stuart Thom visited Clumber Park where he completed his 5km in 26:36.
The next senior Thursday evening training session will begin at Queen Elizabeth High School at 6.30pm while the Tuesday session will start at DW Sport in Marshall’s Yard at 7.15pm. New runners welcome.
