CYCLING: Trent Valley Road Club’s annual awards bash

Trent Valley Road Club met last week to celebrate the achievements of their riders in 2013, and dish out their annual awards.

The cyclists gathered at the Peacock pub in Gainsborough last Thursday.

Most Valued Club Member went to Shaun Pycroft.

A club spokesman said: “The members voted for Pycroft because he has made an outstanding contribution to local sport, local cycling, and TVRC, working with committee members to develop a cycling club that is accessible to all with an interest in road cycling in the area.”

The Crank of the Year award is a tongue in cheek reflection of the year’s events.

This year Darrel Stacey was given the award for his involvement in a collision that caused two other members to ‘dismount in a style’ whilst undertaking a tough climb on a sportive in the Derbyshire Dales, and getting lost on the same ride.

This 10-mile detour added another 1,000ft of climbing to an already long and strenuous ride.

There was a three-way tie for the 2013 Reliability Ride trophy, as Shaun Pycroft, Justin Atkinson and Mike Overton all posted the same number of points.

Pycroft also took home the Circuit Racing trophy.

The club’s circuit racing season is made up of 10 race meetings on the closed roads of the Lincolnshire Show Ground, and Pycroft finished the season top of the league.

The Time Trial title went to Paul Brownless.

The TT league is run over the summer months and races vary between five and 50 miles.

It is also referred to as the ‘Race of Truth.’

Paul Pycroft was crowned the Time Trial Handicap champion.

As with the TT league only riders are given a time bonus by an adjudicator based on previous performance.

Trent Valley Road Club was formed in 2011 and has grown steadily ever since.

Along with competitive racing they cater for riders of all abilities with leisure rides.

Membership costs £15 for adults and £5 for juniors for the year.

The next ride in the 2014 reliability trial league is set to take place on 9th February 2014.

The 38-mile loop will be subject to the same rules as before.
