Cloudless skies greeted the 81 riders for the Lincolnshire Road Riders Association ‘Middlemarkers’ 25 mile Time Trial, hosted by Trent Valley Road Club on Sunday.

Due to temporary road works in Wigsley village the course had to be shortened to between 14 and 15 miles.

There was a fair north-westerly wind during the first section of the adjusted circuit which hampered the rider’s efforts as they left the start line, which was located on Broadholme Lane in Saxilby.

But conversely, this wind aided the riders as they turned at Besthorpe for the latter part of the course back to Harby village.

Trent Valley Road Club only had two riders taking part in the trial, the faster of the two being Andy Codd (Blyton).

He posted a very respectable time of 37.39, with clubmate Paul Brownless saving himself for later in the season clocking in at 38.26.

The fastest time on the day by any competing athlete came from Andy Broxholme of Lincoln Wheelers.

He clocked a blistering 31.55, and he was followed home closely by Richard Walker of Scunthorpe Poly with a time of 33.13.

Due to the shortened course all the handicap and vets on standard times are having to be recalculated and full results will be posted by the organisers at a later date.

The event was hosted, supported and marshalled by members of Trent Valley Road Club.

Shaun Pycroft, event secretary, paid tribute to the race volunteers.

He told the Gainsborough Standard: “I would like to extend a massive thank you to all members of Trent Valley Road Club and other local clubs who gave up their time to help make this event a great success.”

Official photographs from the event will be on sale later in the month.

In other club news, four riders completed a 68 mile social ride on Saturday 15th March, and eight riders attended the club’s official Sunday social ride, which at 44 miles, extended as far as Elkesley in Nottinghamshire.

The club has released its full competitive calendar for 2014 which includes over 60 races and time trials including circuit races and shorter ‘come and try’ race events.
