A pupil at Gainsborough’s Parish Church Primary School has added another title to her ever growing chess accomplishments.
Alyssa Morris (9) recently attended a competition in Oldham for the North of England chess players.
The top three girls in the country in Alyssa’s age group were excluded from the competition, to allow the other girls in the top ten British players to battle it out for the Plate Trophy.
Alyssa, who last year was selected for the Lincolnshire girls’ team along with her twin sister Rhian, played superbly and scored four points out of six to secure the silver plate. She was beaten by just half a point.
Delighted Alyssa said: “It was a really long day, but I love playing chess and to get the silver plate was amazing.
“It really helps being able to practise in school with my sister, Next year I want to go one better and make the British Finals.”
