Trent Valley Academy U12 Boys’ football team were crowned Lincolnshire Schools County Cup Champions on Tuesday, finishing off a tremendous run with a tight 3-2 victory over Kings Grammar School of Grantham.
The road to victory at the Northolme started back in September where they defeated Priory LSST 4-3, The Robert Manning School 2-0, St. George’s Academy, Sleaford, 5-2 and Queen Elizabeth High School 6-1.
The final was a very close affair after TVA opened the scoring through Jack McMenemy. They then quickly fell 2-1 behind by half-time, but the discipline and determination to succeed saw them equalise through Henry Mallet before a sublime finish from Tom Williams sealed the victory.
There have been some outstanding individual and team performances throughout the campaign, but none more so than the resolute defending of Spencer Robson and the work-rate of Joe Edwards during the final.
A massive well done to all the boys for winning the first major honours of any boys team in the short history of TVA, and more glory could be ahead as they are unbeaten in the league this season so they will be looking to clinch the Lincoln and Gainsborough Schools title as well. A big thank you to Gainsborough Trinity FC, especially Matt Boles, for allowing the final to be played at the Northolme and also to Steve Curry, head of PE at QEHS, as the cup wouldn’t be a success without his hard work co-ordinating the competition.
