GAINSBOROUGH Trinity’s players are in great shape and raring to go, according to midfielder Jonathan D’Laryea.

With the first few weeks of pre-season training under their belt, the Blues were finally back on the pitch this week at Cleethorpes, ahead of Saturday’s visit of Grimsby Town.

While D’Laryea admitted the squad were looking forward to the chance to get back into action, he said there were few grumbles about the training regime.

“It’s going well so far,” he told the Standard.

“The lads have come back in good shape and no one has struggled with any of the running.”

“Everyone accepts that the first couple of weeks will be lots of running. I don’t mind that side of things personally.”

“But we’re all looking forward to the games.”

The former Mansfield Town skipper says he and the players have been sad to see some of their colleagues from last season depart the club, in particular striker Ryan Kendall.

But he also says that new boys like Josh Wilde are settling in and the gaps in the squad could be filled by players already at the club.

“The new lads are fitting in really well, and it’ll be interesting to see who else we sign. The lads were a bit disappointed that Ryan (Kendall) left, we saw him as a vital part of our squad, but he made his decision and we wish him well.”

“The strikers we still have will want to step up and replace him.”

Despite a lack of time off between last season’s play-off final and the return to the training ground, D’Laryea says he’s feeling fresh and ready to go again.

“I feel really fit, I kept myself in good condition over the summer so it’s just a continuation of last year,” he said.

“It doesn’t feel like we had a long break, but I’m looking forward to playing matches.”
