Steve Housham believes he’s got the right blend of youth and experience for the 2014/15 Conference North season.

The Blues boss completed his summer business with the capture of midfielders Conor Higginson and Grant Roberts last week.

He and assistant manager Darryn Stamp like the look of the team they’ve put together.

“I think it’s a good blend of mature, experienced players and good youngsters,” he said.

“I was chatting to Stampy the other day and we’ve probably got the smallest budget in the league but we’ve managed to get some good players in.”

“A lot of them have played Conference North or higher.”

He highlighted Tom Davie, Conor Higginson, Liam Davis and Josh Lacey as a quartet who will all gain valuable experience in the coming season.

“Conor could be another Terry Hawkridge for us, I think he could be a good acquisition,” he added.

“I had a few recommendations for him, I spoke to Paul Connor who I had here and he thought very highly of Conor. and I’ve seen a few clips of him in action.”

“With Worksop going down a couple of leagues and with their financial situation he was on the radar and I’m glad to get him in.”

Trinity’s new-look squad will assemble for pre-season training on 28th June, and Housham can’t wait to get started.

He said: “Saturdays are frightening.”

“There’s nothing to do – the wife and kids won’t be happy with me for saying that, and it’s nice to have time with them, but as a manager you’re football mad and you’re buzzing to get back.”

“Although there’s not really much of a break all year round for a manager, you’re busy sorting players out, getting friendlies arranged.”

“Hopefully I’ll get away to relax for a bit before we go back on 28th.”

Gainsborough expect to release their final pre-season fixture list later this week, with only three home games confirmed so far.

The club will hold a junior football gala on 27th July, with a morning session for Under 8s and Under 9s, and afternoon tournaments for Under 10s, 11s and 12s.

The cost of entry for a team will be £15 and further details are available from the club at petewallace@aol.com or myskiw@yahoo.co.uk
