FORMER Worksop Town striker Mikel Suarez is in intensive care nearly a week after being hospitalised following a clash of heads in Tonbridge Angels’ game against Farnborough.

The Bilbao-born forward, who made 17 appearances for Tigers in the 2010/11 season, was injured in a clash with team-mate Lee Browning during the Blue Square South game on Saturday.

Suarez, 26, is reportedly still in a medically induced coma, and his parents have flown to the UK from Spain.

Tonbridge Angels posted an update on the situation last night on their official website, which read: “We have just been advised by Mikel’s family that he remains in hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, following his injury on Saturday.”

“Any further news will be passed on as soon as we receive it.”

“We all send Mikel our best wishes for a quick and speedy recovery.”

Messages of support for the former Boston United and Loughborough University man have flooded in from all over the country on social networking site twitter.
