Santa has teamed up with Marshall’s Yard and the Gainsborough Standard to ask youngsters to write in and explain why they should be the one to light up Gainsborough for the festive period this year.

Youngsters have until Friday, November 11, at 5pm to get their letters in to the Gainsborough Standard office.

The winner will help Santa to switch on Marshall’s Yards lights on Friday, November 18, at 8pm.

The winning child will also win an M&S Christmas Hamper for their family as well as a Christmas turkey and a traditional family board game.

There will be entertainment running throughout Gainsborough from 4pm at the Big Switch On. With two stages, one in the town centre and the other in Marshall’s Yard, there will be double the entertainment.

Headline acts include Little Mix and Michael Buble tributes as well as seeing the return of The Torn.

There will also be two fairgrounds, free unicorn and carriage rides, free face painting, food and craft stalls, stilt walkers and plenty of other wonderful attractions.

The evening will end with a fireworks display at Marshall’s Yard.

Entries should be a maximum of 200 words, which can be emailed to the Gainsborough Standard at newsroom@gainsboroughstandard.co.uk or delivered to The Gainsborough Standard office in Britannia House, Marshall’s Yard.

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday, November 11.
