An Isle man has made global news by organising the world’s biggest independent Star Wars fan convention in Manchester.
Carl Whiteley, 36, was born and raised in Crowle but moved to the Lancashire city seven years ago to start a career in the film industry and also runs high profile events.
After producing an award winning Star Wars parody film in 2014 that had Hollywood crew attached, Carl ran Manchester’s first Star Wars fan convention which saw 10,000 people attend. “I started work on ‘For the Love of the Force’, an independent Star Wars fan convention early this year. I gave up my job to start my own production company and haven’t looked back. We are building full size scout walkers, X- wings, props sets and so much more.
“It’s great fun and people are travelling from all over the world.”
Carl’s work has recently been noticed by some of the biggest film producers and after coming back from a trip to LA in October, Carl has been asked to work with one of the most famous directors in the world ext year on a very special event. He also recently received funding for his first feature film which is set to begin shooting in spring 2016
The convention takes place on December 4-6 at Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Longbridge Road, Trafford Park, Manchester, M17 1SN.
