Hair loss after chemotherapy can have a devastating effect on the self-esteem of anyone who is undergoing a battle with cancer.
But Lorraine Wragg, an established Worksop hair salon owner, is on hand to provide support and a much-needed confidence boost to cancer patients and other clients who may have lost their hair due to diseases such as alopecia.
Gordon Bassett, which was opened by Lorraine’s father on Ryton Street over 50 years ago, is not only a respected hair salon but the only registered NHS wig supplier in Bassetlaw - a provider of high quality wigs to both NHS and private patients.
Lorraine, who took over the business from her dad 15 years ago, said: “We have been dealing with clients for such a long time and we really know our stuff.”
“The salon has a great atmosphere, and clients can go to a comfortable, private room where they can try on the wigs and chat to us about their requirements.”
“Our wigs are supplied by Manchester-based company Dimples, and are so well-made that you would never guess they were wigs. It’s incredibly rewarding to see someone’s confidence completely renewed.”
Lorraine is hoping to branch out and win more NHS contracts with other hospitals, so she can offer help to more clients across the region.
She added: “It’s such an important service, and we’re proud to be the only company to offer it in the district.”
“The nearest place clients could go to would be Sheffield, and a lot of clients don’t want to be travelling long distances like that when they’re feeling fragile from treatment.”
Gordon Bassett offers a number of other products to help hair sufferers such as revolutionary stick-on eyebrows and hairpieces for men.
