Walkeringham Primary School now has it’s own life saving defibrillator on site thanks to several kind local donations.

Mr & Mrs Rusling who live in the village, along with Five Villages First Responders (FVFR) and the school all provided funds to purchase the machine which was put in place recently.

Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, are simple and safe to use and can be potentially life saving if someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest nearby, where they become unresponsive and stop breathing.

While 999 is being called for an ambulance, the machine can be brought to the scene.

The AED gives clear verbal instructions and can be used by anyone to help a casualty in such a situation.

Staff and some parents of the school recently took part in an awareness session where they were shown by FVFR what to do in a life threatening situation, including how to perform CPR and how to use an AED.

The AED will be available should it be required on the school site or nearby during school opening times.
