A Sherburn technician will this week take part in the IRTE Skills Challenge, a competition highlighting excellence in bus engineering.
First National technician trainer Peter Buckle, 53 will be competing against bus technicians from across the UK in the Bristol-based contest, where competitors must overcome a series of technical tasks to discover the best bus engineers in the business.
Peter’s boss, Gary Crookes, group engineering training manager for FirstGroup said: “Peter is a highly-skilled engineer with a broad skill base, who clearly wants to make a difference and is passionate about engineering. I am sure that he will demonstrate his capabilities successfully on the national stage.”
Nick Jones, chief executive of organising body the Institute of Road Testing Engineers, added: “Bus technicians are vital in keeping the country moving. The Skills Challenge highlights the entire bus industry and represents our key aims of supporting, recognising and rewarding technical excellence.”
The winning technicians will be announced at an awards ceremony in July.
