South Yorkshire’s only children’s hospice, Bluebell Wood, is urging people to sign up to the most colourful event of the year on Blue Monday.

As part of an effort to inject colour into the region with a 5km vibrant fun run, Bluebell Wood is today (Monday 19th January) launching a Colour Dash, due to take place in May, to help beat those Monday blues.

The Bluebell Wood Colour Dash is set to make an even bigger splash after the huge success of the first race in 2014, which raised around £35,000 in sponsorship.

The 5km run will this year take place at Rother Valley Country Park on May 2nd. Participants of all ages will be able to take to the course and will be showered at each kilometre with brightly coloured powder manufactured specifically for throwing at people.

The race has already seen over 400 participants sign up so far, including Bluebell Wood’s chief executive, Claire Rintoul.

Claire will lead over 2,500 across the start line and is sure to finish in an array of colours head to toe.

After taking to the skies and plunging 15,000ft last year, Claire is looking forward to keeping her feet on the ground.

She said: “After seeing the huge achievement and excitement of last year’s Colour Dash, I thought it was my turn to get messy and help our children and families.”

“The community spirit I see every day at the hospice and in our communities is incredible. Without this support we wouldn’t be able to continue to offer our specialist services to children and families, as we have to raise over £3m a year.”

“This is the perfect opportunity to have fun and fundraise for Bluebell Wood, I am really looking forward to it.”

Colour Dash tickets are £15 for adults, £7.50 for children and £40 for families (two adults, two children). Children under five are free. Team tickets are also available at £12pp (eight adults or more per team).
