Shoppers at Gainsborough Market were asked to say what they loved about it and the traders were described as ‘friendly and knowledgable.’

This was part of Love Your Local Markets fortnight and one lucky shopper won a hamper full of goodies donated by the traders themselves.

Rocio Ruiz Rivadeneyra, 22, from Gainsborough was delighted with her prize which included a fruit basket, a selection of flowers, fairy cakes, voucher to redeem a crab from Wayne’s fish stall and a voucher to spend at Michelle’s.

Her entry into the competition read: “I love my local market because it provides me with the opportunity to enjoy fresh local produce at excellent prices and with an outstanding service from friendly and knowledgeable traders.”

Miss Rivadeneyra said she felt very ‘lucky’ that she had won the prize.

She said: “My parents and I are very grateful to everyone that helped with this project, and we feel glad that local markets are being promoted, since they are at the core of our communities, especially Gainsborough’s.

Wayne Hill, who has been trading on Gainsborough Market for 20 years, said: “It’s great to see young people shopping at the market. Thank you to all of our customers who support us at Gainsborough Market and if you are not a regular why not pop along and visit us.”

Coun Judy Rainsforth, ward member for Gainsborough South West Ward, said: “The competition was a great way for us to see what people love about Gainsborough Market, and to give us an opportunity to speak with both shoppers and residents about what we are doing in and around the town.”
