Rotherham Council’s draft local plan for future development was revealed this week.

It shows where developers could build houses and create employment over the next 15 years.

• Across Rotherham there are now 78 per cent fewer sites earmarked for development - down from more than 650 in 2011 to just 140.

• The draft plan now features land for 12,750 new homes rather than the original 26,000.

• A large amount of greenbelt land - 529 hectares - has also been taken out of the equation, amounting to 61 per cent of what was previously planned.

• Around 140 hectares of land, including greenbelt, has been designated as ‘safeguarded housing land’ which will not be touched within the 15 year lifetime of the plan.

• A series of public drop-in sessions are being held across the borough. Local sessions are:

Tuesday 4th June Anston Parish Hall

Monday 10th June Maltby Full Life Church

Thursday 13th June Aston Parish Hall

Tuesday 18th June Wales Village Hall

Thursday 20th June Dinnington Resource Centre

All sessions run 2.30pm - 6.30pm
