River Trent flooding in 2000

THIS week’s photograph was taken relatively recently in comparison to most pictures in this feature.

It shows a swollen River Trent looking towards the Spillers (now Kerry’s) plant with the cooling towers of West Burton power station in the right background.

It’s late October or early November 2000 and there had been weeks of torrential rain which had affected many parts of the country putting much land under water.

The water in the Trent has risen so much that it has spilled over the bank and into the adjoining fields. Ramper Road was closed for several weeks because of flooding and damage to the road surface.
