A new business providing home care to help elderly people continue to live independently in their own homes is launching in Retford.
Home Instead Senior Care will care for clients across a wide area including Retford, Gainsborough, Hatfield, Epworth, Ollerton and surrounding areas. The face behind the business is Notts born Vicky Waring who is looking to create 50 new jobs and says that she owes her inspiration for setting up the company to her late grandmother.
Vicky has worked in the care sector all her life. Her interest began when she used to accompany her grandma on home help visits.
She said: “I have always wanted to be a nurse and care for people ever since the age of 9 or 10.”
“I can remember visiting elderly people with my grandma. I learnt the importance of proper care and how to look after the whole person.”
Vicky worked in a nursing home as a teenager and thought it was the ‘best job ever’.
Following school she trained as a nurse and has held a number of posts working in the local community, as a qualified health visitor in children’s services, community nurse, manager and team leader.
Her jobs gradually became more desk based and as her 40th birthday approached she began looking for a new challenge. That’s when a chance turn of events began to unfold.
Her beloved Grandma sadly developed Alzheimer’s in her later years and after a fall she lost confidence and her health started to fail, Vicky’s’s father cared for her before she sadly passed away.
As a tribute to her much loved Grandma, Vicky decided that she would take part in an Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.
She was about to go to the one being held in Sheffield, but changed her mind and headed to the walk at Woollaton Park in Nottingham as that was where she had spent many happy times with her grandma.
At the event she spotted the team from Home Instead Senior Care, who were the main sponsor of the Nottingham Memory Walk and decided to talk to them to find out more about the services they offered.
She explains: “I was so impressed with what I heard about the company and the way they deliver care exactly as it should be.”
“I don’t know what happened to make everything slot into place, but it did and I made the decision to set up a Home Instead in my local community.”
“The business is now up and running and I love every minute of it. I know that grandma would have seriously approved and that maybe, there was something up there drawing me back to Nottingham on that day of the Memory Walk which turned out to be a turning point in my life.”
She continued, “I see it as a privilege and a pleasure to care for people in their own homes.”
“At Home Instead we provide person- centred care tailored to each of our clients, and our minimum call is 1 hour.”
“We also take time to carefully select and train our caregivers, matching them with our clients based on their common interests and personalities, building long and trusting relationships.”
Vicky is keen to talk to like-minded individuals who are kind and compassionate and who may be interested in joining the company.
