Gainsborough school children help decorate Easter Tree at nursing home

The Easter Tree was the idea of Eliot House’s activities co-ordinator, Robyn McKenna, to brighten up Eliot House Nursing Home and Morton village with the hope that the community would come and put items on the tree.

Alison Priest, admin, said: "We have had several items made for us from residents’ families and friends and Years 4 and 5 from Morton Trentside Primary School came along and put all their decorations on the tree to celebrate Easter.

"It was nice to see all the children enjoying hanging their decorations. We gave them easter eggs to thank them for all their hard work.”

Eliot House has a good relationship with nearby Morton Trentside Primary School.

At Christmas pupisl went along and sang carols outside in the car park for the residents which put a smile on the faces of all those watching through the window.

Alison said: “We are also trying to raise funds to do up all the gardens at Eliot, to turn them into a sensory garden to aid the residents who have dementia and stimulate all the senses.

"We have been kindly donated plants from Morrison’s and again by locals and families alike, as well as donations of money to put towards the gardens.

"If anyone has any extra plants/shrubs/herbs that they no longer want and would like to donate to us that would be fantastic

“It has been a very long year for all the residents and staff but hopefully we are now getting through it and have become a stronger team, working together.”

Katie Fleming, Year 4 teacher at Morton Trentside Primary School, said: “We were asked by Eliot House if we could decorate their trees with Easter decorations.

"The children from two classes enjoyed making their own decorations. Some created 3D chicks cracking out of eggs, some designed Easter baskets and some created paper plate bunny decorations.

"We had a beautiful sunny walk from school to Eliot House where we were greeted by a member of staff. The children placed their decorations on the trees in small groups and then stood and waved at the residents before returning back to school.

"We hope these decorations put a smile on the residents and the general public’s faces. Happy Easter.”
