BUDDING journalists at a Gainsborough school have been hard at work making their own newspaper.
The Whites Wood Lane Standard has been written and designed entirely by Year 6 pupils - giving them a taste of what life might be like at their local newspaper.
A roving bunch of reporters went around Whites Wood Lane Community School in search of news. And they found lots to write home about.
The paper is packed full of stories from every corner of the school, and is sure to be a top seller with its 50p cover price.
“Now everyone can read about all the things happening at the school, from the sports teams’ success to our new Year 3 area and recent outstanding Ofsted report,” said Year 4 teacher Sarah Taylor, who helped on the project.
“We appointed an editor and a photographer and lots of reporters who got together to decide what to write about. And this is the result.”
“Everyone took their role very seriously and did a great job.”
The pupils learned how reporters conduct interviews and ask lots of questions to get quotes from people.
“They also looked at real newspapers for inspiration, and learned how to design pages with headlines columns, pictures and banners,” said Miss Taylor.
“We all worked together as a team and we’re pleased with the how the newspaper turned out.”
