A new construction college is to open in Gainsborough in a bid to help tackle a nationwide skills shortage in building trades.
The Career College will be based at Lincoln College's Gainsborough campus and provide 75 employer-led education and technical training places for young people aged 16 to 19.
Specialising in bricklaying, painting and decorating and carpentry and joinery, it will offer young people the opportunity to secure a rewarding career in the construction trades and boost the building sector in West Lindsey.
The college has formed a partnership with major local businesses, such as Gelder Group, Lindum Group, Robert Woodhead, Longhurst Housing Group, Ongo Homes and West Lindsey District Council, to shape the curriculum and ensure graduates can get their careers off to a great start.
Steve Gelder, Gelder Group boss, said: “This college will give us the opportunity to not only recruit and inspire the next generation of construction workers, but to also work together with other building organisations, all of whom recognise the need for more young people in the industry."
An open day on Saturday, from 11am to 2.30pm, will allow students and their parents to discover more about the courses on offer, chat to tutors, view the college’s facilities and have a go at activities.
Representatives from businesses supporting the initiative will also be on hand to answer their questions.
