All Saints’ Church and Five Villages First Responders were each presented with cheques for £150, raised at the event to mark switching on the village Christmas lights (Friday 6th December). The countdown to the 6.30pm switch-on was led by local MP John Mann, and carol singing by the Rev David Henson, on Windmill Gardens. Harworth Brass Band entertained residents in the Parish Church.

War Memorial

Misterton Parish Council has voted to clean and restore the War Memorial, to restore the inscriptions, and improve the area surrounding the Celtic cross. Bassetlaw Council has awarded the council £7,500 towards costs, which must be matched with funding from the parish council and other sources. Bids have been made for other funds. The work will be carried out to commemorate the centenary of the start of The Great War next year.

Village Speedwatch

A Speedwatch team was out in force in late November and clocked the usual quota of speeding vehicles. The next session is scheduled over the Christmas period. But residents are asked to note the registration numbers of speeding drivers: Notts Police has details of target vehicles – those that are persistent offenders – so residents are asked to note the registration, type of vehicle, colour, and the area in which they’re seen speeding, and pass the details to the Speedwatch co-ordinator. Speedwatch volunteers are also keeping an eye out and reporting any sightings. More volunteers are needed to work in teams when the speed gun comes to Misterton. If you’re interested, contact the local co-ordinator, David Pearce on davidgpearce@tiscali.co.uk.
