Life is a bit sweeter for cancer patients who can now enjoy a pic ‘n’ mix while undergoing their treatment at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Patients undergoing chemotherapy are being provided with a selection of sweets thanks to The Health Tree Foundation, the new charity for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

Ward clerk Julie Lindo submitted a wish to the foundation for ward 18 to be able to provide boiled sweets for chemotherapy patients.

Staff from the charity were able to grant Julie’s wish and delivered a big box of hundreds of sweets to the ward – and has pledged to keep them stocked up.

Julie said: “I wanted to be able to provide boiled sweets for chemotherapy patients to take away the metallic taste in their mouth that often occurs when having treatment.”

Anyone can submit a wish to the Health Tree Foundation for funding for items for hospitals in Scunthorpe, Grimsby or Goole.

If you are a member of the public, a patient, a visitor or a member of staff and notice something that you think could be improved all you have to do is visit the Circle of Wishes page on The Health Tree Foundation website and submit your wish.
