Children at a St George’s Primary School in Gainsborough have received expert guidance regarding Health and Safety from an industry professional during a housebuilder’s health and safety-themed awareness campaign.
Miller Homes has dedicated time from its schedule to educate children on the dangers that are present in everyday life, including those associated with construction sites.
Steve McElroy sales director for Miller Homes Yorkshire, said: “We felt that visiting the school closest to our Gainsborough development was a great way of working with the children and the local community to remind them of the need to take care of their safety at all times.
“The children enjoyed a short talk, had a chance to dress up in the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that our construction workers have to wear and were invited to design a Health and Safety poster in a competition where the winning design will be proudly displayed in our sales office at Brooklands our development close to the school in Gainsborough.”
The campaign, sees all regions across the country working towards the education of children as to the dangers that building sites pose and to encourage safety awareness and will see children given a fluorescent armband to increase their visibility on gloomy mornings and dark nights. .
Tony Haigh, safety, health and environment manager at Miller Homes Yorkshire, continued: “The children were a delight to work with and came up with some great answers to the questions posed.
“It’s really important that children are aware of building site dangers and much of this knowledge they can then applied to other areas of their lives, particularly as dark nights are now upon us. I shall look forward to seeing their designs for our poster competition – good luck everyone.”
Mrs Barry, head teacher at St George’s Primary, added: “It was great to see the children learning about a serious topic in such a fun way and we extend our warm thanks to Tony and the Miller Homes team.
“The talk has really raised children’s awareness and hopefully they will now be more aware of the dangers that they face in everyday situations.”
