Gainsborough firefighters are set to strike for a second day later today (Saturday) .

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will walk out between 2pm and 2am in a long-running row over pensions.

The industrial action will affect many stations across Lincolnshire.

It follows a period of strike action on Friday 2nd May from 12 noon until 5pm.

And tomorrow (Sunday 4th May) they will strike between 10am and 3pm.

Dave Ramscar, chief fire officer at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has plans in place to ensure that we continue to provide an emergency response within the county.”

“We accept that any planned industrial action will impact on our ability to deliver business as usual, but we are confident that the implementation of our plans will enable us to continue to answer 999 calls and to respond to incidents as quickly as possible.”

“We continue to remind people to take care when going about their daily business, and that there is further safety advice available on our website and on Twitter @lincsfirerescue.”

The service said it had continuity plans in place for all eventualities and would be prepared to maintain an emergency response to 999 calls during strike periods.

However, people are urged to be especially aware of fire safety risks during these periods and should only call 999 in a genuine emergency.
