Children and young people in Gainsborough are being encouraged to get out and play thanks to a £18,600 grant which has been awarded to Gainsborough Adventure Playground Ltd (GAPA) for new outdoor play facilities.

The cash boost has been given by WREN, a not for profit business which awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK.

The funds are donated by FCC Environment to the Landfill Communities Fund.

The grant has been used to build a play area to improve outdoor facilities for children accessing the play service.

The children and families at GAPA have been involved in its design.

And with help from Newby Leisure, they have created a play area that includes opportunities for lots of adventurous outdoor play.

“It is fantastic that WREN can make funds like this available to communities and we are very pleased our project was selected,” said Lisa Pinkney, company manager of GAPA.

“We are now looking forward to a great summer with lots of outdoor fun”.

GAPA is situated on the Park Springs Estate in Gainsborough and has been operating for more than 40 years.

In that time thousands of local children and families from across the Gainsborough community have made use of it each year.

Its team of 14 staff provide services all year round for all children, aged from toddlers to 14 years-old and includes an Adventure playground, nursery and groups for parents and carers with children aged under four.

All children are welcome to attend GAPA and playworkers are always available to show people around the facilities and provide information on all the play opportunities on offer.

“WREN is committed to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families,” added Peter Cox, managing director of WREN.

“The outdoor play area will provide a fantastic space for local people to get outdoors and have some fun.”

“We’re delighted to support GAPA and their valuable work.”
