The Sweyn Forkbeard in Gainsborough is offering readers of the Standard a free tea or filter coffee worth 99p.

The Standard has teamed up with the pub, in Silver Street, Gainsborough, for this great offer.

The Sweyn Forkbeard is a branch of J D Wetherspoon. The opening times are Monday and Tuesday 8am to 12am, Wednesday and Thursday 8am to 1am, Friday and Saturday 8am to 2am and Sunday 8am to 12am.

Each day of the week the pub has a different promotional offer, Monday is Mexican Monday, Tuesday is Steak Club, Wednesday is Chicken Club, Thursday is Curry Club, Friday is Fish Friday and Sunday is Sunday Club.

Breakfast is served every day from 8am to 12pm starting from £2.49. Dishes include a traditional breakfast, a breakfast roll and eggs royale.

Main meals to choose from include a selection of meals under 500 calories, pub classics and burgers. A selection of dishes are included in a two for £6.89 promotion.

A new menu is due to launch on Wednesday, September 16, and the Sweyn Forkbeard is holding a Meet the Brewer evening on Friday, September 18.

Drinks promotions include three for £5 on a wide range of bottled products, two for £12 for cocktails, and they also have a wide range of craft beers on offer with more to be introduced soon.

The Sweyn Forkbeard recalls the early 11th Century King of Denmark, who set out to conquer England from Gainsborough, where he was later killed.

In 1013, Sweyn Forkbeard sailed up the River Trent and camped his armies at Gainsborough.

Leaving his son Canute in charge, he proceeded to conquer the country.

However, a few weeks after his arrival, Sweyn was killed in Gainsborough, in the early part of 1014.

The pub was named the Gainsborough Standard’s pub of the year earlier this year.

Readers can take up this offer of a free tea or filter coffee, worth 99p, by simply taking the voucher from this week’s Standard and presenting it at the time of purchase from Thursday, August 27, until Wednesday, September 2.
