SLIDESHOW: Making the most of May Day in Epworth

There was a right Royal event going on in the Isle this month.

The Friends of Epworth School group presented a traditional May Day fair at Epworth Primary Academy when the winners of the May Day King and Queen competition Lewis Tillman and Lowri Smith, and the Prince and Princess contest, Mitchell Woodcock and Olivia Dallinson, were drawn at random.

The event included Maypole dancing, pony rides, go karts, face painting, bouncy castles, an under fives area, tombola, raffle, refreshments, games and stalls.

Entries for the May Day King and Queen were all from Epworth School while the Prince and Princess candidates were from Stepping Stones and Thurlow Preschool.

Academy vice principal Mrs Sarah Venables said: “Members of FoES (Friends of Epworth School) organised another wonderful fundraising event on behalf of Epworth Primary Academy.

“The stalls were amazing and the bouncy castle and mini Grand Prix track went down a storm. There was a display of May Pole Dancing, which the children had been practicing during the day in the school hall.

“An overwhelming £1,600 was raised on the day and we would like to say a massive thank you to member of the FoES committee and other helpers, as well as the many children, parents and other family members came along and supported the event.”
