A HARD-WORKING teacher from Trent Valley Academy has been awarded the Gainsborough Standard’s Teacher’s Rose.
PE teacher Mrs Donna Marsh has been teaching at TVA since 2009 and is said to be well respected by both her peers and her pupils.
We went along to present Mrs Marsh with her rose and find out just what it is that makes her such a special teacher.
“This is really fantastic,” she said.
“It’s just nice to be recognised for all of my hard work, but there are a lot of members of staff here at TVA that deserve this as well.”
Mrs Marsh said she was inspired to teach by her own PE teacher back when she was still at school in Scunthorpe.
“When I was at school I had a really great relationship with my PE teacher Sue Gravil.”
She continued: “She was really encouraging to me and that just inspired me to go on to become a PE teacher myself.”
“She was just so helpful and supportive and always wanted the best from me and just pushed for that little bit extra from me every time. I just think that is what teaching is all about and it’s something that I try to do.”
Mrs Marsh said that she hopes she has the same connection with her pupils that she experienced.
“I think I’ve got a really good relationship with my pupils, especially the sports and cross country teams,” she said.
“They are the ones that you really help to grow and develop and build a rapport with.”
The dedicated teacher added that she wouldn’t swap her job for any other in the world.
“I like that every day has a different challenge and no day is ever the same,” she said.
“I just love teaching, especially here at TVA because the facilities here were one of the things that drew me here. That and I’ve got a really great team of staff here in PE.”
“We’re a mixture of really experienced people and those who are new to the profession with loads of fresh ideas.”
She added: “We do a lot of extra hours and I spent all weekend doing school work, so it’s just really nice to be recognised.”
Director of business and resources at TVA John Cawdell added: “Mrs Marsh is fantastic, enthusiastic and a great team player.”
He added: “She gets on really well with the children and she’s a pleasure to work with.”
