CELEBRATIONS are under way at Gainsborough College after their latest Ofsted report found them ‘outstanding’.
Following an Ofsted inspection in February, together with their sister campuses in Lincoln and Newark, the college received the highest overall grade – Grade 1 Outstanding.
Principal and chief executive John Allen said that everyone was thrilled with the result.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised as one of the best and one of the largest GFE Colleges in the country,” he said.
“This is fantastic news for both the college and the local communities that we serve.”
He continued: “Our priority is to provide inclusive, high-quality education and training – a level of quality now nationally recognised and one that we are committed to upholding.”
The report found that the college ‘provides outstanding education and training’ and ‘the success rates for learners of all ages on long courses have improved significantly since the last inspection and are now high.’
Ofsted also said that ‘learners on all courses develop high levels of specialist skills which improve their employability’ and that pupils ‘enjoy their time at the college and many exceed their expectations they had when enrolling, with high standards and make good progress, regardless of their backgrounds in education.’
Gainsborough centre manager Leslie Whiting added: “Wow, Grade 1 Outstanding – this is a fantastic achievement.”
“We are thrilled with the recognition of the contribution that Gainsborough College makes to both the local community and the individual learners.”
Mechanics student Scott Bingham, 17, said that Gainsborough College was more than worthy of the praise.
“It’s really good here,” he said. “The teachers are really fun, enthusiastic and inspirational.”
He added: “I’m not surprised by the Ofsted result at all, and I’d like to say thank you very much to all of the staff.”
Forty year-old hairdressing student Lucy Mountcastle agreed.
“I absolutely love it here,” said Lucy. “The teaching here is really amazing. I’m off to the Lincoln campus for level three of my training but I would stay here if I could.”
Lucy added: “I’d just like to say a huge thank you so much to all of the teachers for making my time here so enjoyable. Keep up the good work.”
